Not so Hot Sweater

Here's the sweater wrap that didn't turn out too well....

I do  not like the way the seams do not lay flat.  I serged them, and will top stitch them down, but they are all wonky.  I'm thinking of hand washing this, drying it and then putting it on fluff/air dry in the dryer and see what happens.  I didn't hem the sleeves and used the selvege because I sorta like the frayed edges.  But this is way too big in the shoulders and very sloppy looking on and the stretch on the sleeve goes DOWN and not around the arm (this was how the layout suggested), so they are growing and there's minimal ease for my arms... yuck!  (Imagine reaching and having your sleeve tighten like a sausage casing.)  Here's a photo of the back.  I messed with the color so that it would show up better, but this is a black knit.

and here's a line drawing of the pattern

I think this will be my last Sager's pattern.  Each one has been a disappointment... and they are not cheap!   thank goodness I got the fabric on sale.

Another thing I noticed just now while eyeing my entry and comparing my sweater with the line drawing.... either the line drawing is not correct, or my sweater is not correct.... but I got way more seams in my sweater.  It is basically 7 identical godet type pieces that encircle the sleeve/shoulder piece, and then 2 other smaller godet type pieces for the back and if you look at my back, there are 3 visible seams, ah, I only see one on the line drawing.... I need to recheck my pattern, instructions and construction and see who goofed... but I don't think it was me....

Hot August Nights

I know I've promised a view of last weekend's project, but it's been so hot in the house, that I just can't even bear to go upstairs even for a quick photo shoot!  Yea, I'm probably the only house in So. Calif w/o air conditioning, but I really don't need it except a few days a year.  We have an attic fan and most nights cool off pretty nicely and that works great... but lately, the air has been hot and still and there's no relief! arrrgh!  So, my computer and sewing machine which are upstairs, have been idle until the weather cools.

Me and my glass of wine have been hanging in the yard.... almost literally!  I live on a corner and it has become a magnet for the neighborhood kids.... so, I hung 2 swings from the large pine, added a badminton net with rackets and spend my evenings outside with the neighbors sharing wine, dinner, watching the kids play, and seeing how high I can go on the swing before I jump off!   hey, and I'm getting pretty good hitting that birdie!

Thursday is Jeffrey's 5th birthday (my nephew... who lives 5 houses away), so last night we distributed invites made by his 6 year old sister, to the neighborhood kids inviting them for cake and juice in the "park" (my yard) on friday!  I need to at least go upstairs and get my camera, those pictures should be good!

Sure as @*($ don't make 'em like the used to

So, I was stitching along on my recently repaired $7K sewing machine and clunk, crack, bang, it broke  AGAIN. - the bobbin assembly case.   The machine spends half its time in the shop getting fixed!  And what really irritates me is the solution is "maybe it's time to upgrade!".... Yea, I want to spend $9K to upgrade a $7K machine that I've only had about 5 years (don't get me started on that!).

After contemplating tossing it out the second story window and imagining the great pleasure I would have watching it shatter into a zillion little pieces as it hit the ground, I packed it up and put it in my car for ANOTHER lunch hour trip to the dealer!

In the meantime, I took out my trusty featherweight  and finished my project.    This featherweight is at leat 50 years old, and stitches like a dream!  A little oil every so often, a new needle, and some times a bulb, and it's as good as new.    If this machine did a zig zag, I'd be in heaven.  I have a buttonholer that does way better buttonholes than my top of the line piece of crap.....

As for the project I finished, it didn't turn out so well......   I'll post THAT tomorrow...

Weekend Projects

I cut out a few things last night to work on this weekend.  I received my box of sale fabrics from www.cjpatterns.com..... it's like Christmas in August when I get boxes of fabric!  (How many of you track your packages online until it arrives at your door?)   The box had a soft and drapey honycomb knit that I will use to make a wrap http://www.silhouettepatterns.com/085.htm and a nice teal rayon knit for a tee http://www.hotpatternsstore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HP&Product_Code=wk_st&Category_Code=to and lots of black cotton and rayon knits for more tees that i will use with some fun trims.

I got some work I need to do in my yard this weekend.... my wild flowers are done and I need to replace them, and I have a tree trunk that I need to dig out and replace with a cactus.

Here's a photo of DH, looking all official.....

Gulp

My 30 year high school reunion is this October....Has it really been that long?  Is there really anyone I want to see that I haven't? Do I need to lose weight, get in shape, fix something?  Shall I make something to wear?  Shall I torture DH and drag him along?  Why are they always so expensive? Dang
