Summer weekends

I love summer! I'm taking another 3 day weekend..... probably the last one of summer. Katelyn, Denise and I are heading up 395 tonight to go through Mojave, Owens Valley, Bishop, Mono Lake, and Bodie then back through the Tioga Pass to Yosemite Valley on friday. Bodie's an an old silver mining town, ghost town that is at the end of a narrow dirt road about 12 miles off 395; Mono Lake is an oasis is the great dry basin for millions of migratory birds; Tioga Pass is beautiful and the "back way" into Yosemite past Tenaya Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, and Lembert Dome. Saturday, we will hike up to Glacier Point and then come down the Panorama trail past 3 waterfalls. Sunday we head home. This morning on my way to work I spotted my sister jogging with her dog. I didn't realize it was her and thought I wish that was me.... enjoying the morning, running with my dog (that I don't have) and free the rest of the day (so, ok, she's not "free" she's got 3 kids), but I hate being couped up in an office when the suns shinning outside! Tomorrow I'll be outside, exploring!

I ended up taking friday off, again! Woo-hoo, I love long weekends. However, my sister was gone this weekend along with her kids and I got BORED! I didn't realize how much those kids annoying me actually entertained me! She's got a great beach house and is there for 2 weeks! Yikes! I did sew, however. I finished a sheath dress and jacket ... this pattern  
i just need to add buttons. I had some Guatamalen fabric and some raw silk in my stash that I thought would work well. The dress has a nice drop waist and the jacket, well, I'm not sure about the jacket. But it is summer and this is more of a Fall look, so I'm going to put the outfit into my closet and let it age a bit. Weekend reporting

Saturday nights used to be going out.... now I enjoy sitting home with a dvd, glass (or 2) of wine, and sewing. This was my saturday night project.  it's a simple wrap dress out of rayon lycra. the bodice is lined and it went together really quickly. Sunday I went out to the Long Beach Quilt Festival. Here's some photos of some things I thought were interesting. 
It was pretty quiet on sunday, but I understand that friday and saturday it was chaotic. They ran out of parking and food! Eeek! The Show will be back next year and probably more organized. This is the same show that they present in Houston which is HUGE and well-attended. I'm glad it's now on the west coast. I'm always amazed at the detail that some of these items have... who has that amount of time?! I bought a circle cutter.... I've been noticing circles randomly placed on t-shirts and would like to try it, and also try the technique Mary Ray demo'd where she used triangles, but I want to use circles. I also bought a pattern for a skirt and a kimono panel.

Long Beach Quilt Festival

this weekend I'm heading to Long Beach to the Long Beach Quilt Festival. http://www.quilts.com/home/shows/ This is done by the same organization that does Houston, so it should be fabulous! There will be over 300 vendors... yes 300! Yikes, I better NOT take my credit card! I'll report back with photos next week. If you are there, I will be sitting at the ASG booth on Sunday, so stop by and say "hi". On another topic, I'm already planning my next "vacation" (Aug 8-10). My niece, best friend, and I are going on a mini-road trip up the eastern side of the Sierras (hwy 395), with stops in Bodie http://www.bodie.com/, Mono Lake http://www.monolake.org/live/monocam2.htm, and then through the Tioga Pass to Yosemite for a hike up the "4 mile trail" to Glacier Point, then down the Panorama Trail back to the Valley. I did this hike several years ago and loved it. Of course, there will be all the requisite food stops along the way. Schotz Bakery in Bishop is a favorite! My niece is at a fun age and loves to explore with me. She my friend and I have great fun on our trips.
