Countdown to Christmas

Only 3 more weeks!  Wasn't it just "Six Weeks Before Christmas".

I got 3 more shirts, 2 more bags, 2 scarves, and a skirt to alter (thanks Cindy Undecided).  Last night, I finished the shirt for boss.  Each year I make him a shirt, I figure it's a good choice since I have always struggled with what do I get the boss! So, now he gets a shirt with some sort of "fish" theme.  He's a fisherman when he's not lecturing, teaching, or working in his lab.  I figure a shirt's good because it shows some thought, is not overly expensive, and if he didn't like it he wouldn't say because what's the point.... it can't be returned.  But I have seen evidence that he wears them in his travel photos.  And men's shirts are really easy to make.

I finished the shirt for my dad for his upcoming B'day and now I have 3 more to make.   My plan is to cut them out tonight.

Thanksgiving was fun!  My sister and I drove out to AZ to spend it with my mom and dad.  Dinner was tasty... but the turkey was scarse.  Mom tripped and dropped the platter, meat and all.  Lucky for some, they had turkey on their plates; others weren't so lucky.  the following day, "black friday" we did our usually shop til you drop.  I got all my Christmas shopping done!  Now to finishg the sewing projects!

I'm still thinking about the no fabric purchases in 2009.   And what could possibly be an emergency where I'd have to buy some.  It would sure be nice to whittle down my stash!

No Fabric Purchases in 2009??

I've been thinking about this.... No fabric purchases for 2009, I need to use my stash... my way out of control fabric stash....

can I do it?  Not sure... I mean I know there is gonna be something I will *need* during 2009 or something that is a great buy..  I need to think about this challenge and maybe make a few rules so it's not so strict.  Maybe even a 6 month time limit, but not an entire year!  But it would be a great way to eliminate the piles of fabric.....

I'm working on my Christmas sewing... so some of the items I will not post because I don't want someone to see their gift on my blog... but in reality, I don't really think anyone reads this and so it probably doesn't matter.

But here's something I finished last week.  It's a Vogue pattern, DKNY 2923 and I used a nice cotton for the jacket and a 4ply silk for the top.  I recall making these kind of tops back in high school with a hard of fabric and cording.   I would never wear a top like this now without a jacket and not really sure I like the jacket or that much color, but it is pretty.

Well, back to making my Christmas gifts....... while watching the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 and then Get Smart..... Oh, which reminds me, I worked on my cape, but the wool got discolored.  I guess 30+ year old wool wsn't a good idea.  BUT, I did go out and buy some nice brown wool because I really like the cape and the way it fits.  so, it's back to the start with the cape

Here's some photos from the Swap!

I met so many creative people. Everyone was having such a great time.  The "designers" were up in the balcony re-constructing and modifying clothing that was donated by attendees.  It is all used, recycled clothing.  You take as much as you want.  There are designers there for silk screening, embellishing, felting, sewing, painting, etc.  Our booth was felting and embellishing.  I had so much fun with the embellisher.. I think I *need* one!   Hear that Santa!?

The crowd was ginormous!  The vendor mall was crowded.  Filled with all sorts of crafters and artists.  what a fun (and exhausting) day!

The line weaved around the building 3 blocks.

To Do List

It's Friday.... my favorite evening of the week...

I got 3 netflix's; 4 sewing projects (cut and ready); boxes of fabric to put/give away; bills to pay; checkbook to balance; grocery store shopping; a friend's b'day party on saturday night (which I suspect will be interesting because the guy can't keep his dates/girlfriends from crossing paths; and a swap or rama rama on Sunday....

this swap should be fun!  I like the concept and there should be lots of interesting people to meet.  We will have our ASG booth set up and hope to introduce more young people to sewing!

I'll bring my camera .... and fill you in on sunday night.
