A little bit of history

My dad asked that I copy and print some photos for him.

I'll share those here with you.

This is a photo of my dad and my Aunt Elaine (his sister) August 1981.  My dad is a year younger than I am now! (holy moly)  He has the bluest eyes.  I remember as a kid all my friends commenting  how handsome he is.  I bet that jacket is polyester!  I wonder if Grisley Adams was the popular show at the time...

This photo is my mom with her brother and sister December 1956  -- Aunt Lorraine, Uncle Bob, and my mom (who must be about 21).  She always dresses so stylish.  I love the fabric on that blouse. I bet those curtains are made of bark cloth, check out that skinny tie and all the details and the nice fit in the clothes  !  I bet their shoes match.

I look at both of these photos for traces of me and where I got my looks.  I suppose if I had kids I'd do the same looking at them.

Sunday my niece and I went to the Fair and saw Grand Funk RR and  the Doobie Bros... it was a great show and she and I had a lot of fun!  Three MEN sat in front of us... they looked like their prime was when the Doobie Bros first appeared in the 70's and had since expired many a yearsago and this was their big night out.  Anyway, one of the men (who actually looked like Humpty Dumpty) kept turning around and smiling at Katelyn!  I glared at him. THEN, at one point he hands me his business card to hand to her!  I politely returned the card to him and stated that "she is only 14"!   He seemed unphased at this and gave her a thumbs up (what?).  When the concert was over, I wanted to scoot out of there pretty quickly, as we were leaving, Humpty Dumpty stopped Katelyn and again handed her his business card!  She was appauled and not flattered and thought it was really weird (as any 14 year old, or 20 for that matter would) ... I took the card and wrote "I told you she was only 14 years old... shame on you!" on it and popped it into an envelope addressed to his business on the card  and mailed it!  I hope he's embarassed and I really hope that he has an assistant or someone that opens his mail that will read it and embarass him even more!

Go, Go, Go, and some Sew
Friday night we went to the LA County Fair to see War (the "Why Can't We be Friends" group) and had a nice time.  The Fair is a nice venue for concerts as you always get close and it's outside surrounded by lots of food!

Yesterday I finished up my Vogue 8491 dress and jacket.  You can get a full review of it here http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/readreview.pl?readreview=1&reviewnum=32119

I also went to FIDM yesterday and purchased lots of fabric from the $2 a yard table.  I beautiful black sweater knit, some nice pinstripe, knit, and a soft black fur for Brooke's Halloween costume - she wants to be a dog!

Today, I head back to the Fair to promote ASG at the "table"

afterwards, Katelyn and I are going to see the Doobie Brothers in concert....

Oh, oh, listen to the music
Oh, oh, listen to the music
Oh, oh, listen to the music
All the time

All Grown up

Here's a photo of me with 4 of my nieces.   Yea, I added those "shapes" to hide what their bathing suits weren't... I'm weird.

Sarah, Brittney, and Kris are my brother's girls, and Katelyn is my sister's oldest.  Katelyn and I were returning from a visit to my parents' and "the girls" were at their mom's so we stopped by for a visit.   They are all working now, with boyfriends, and busy, but we took some fun trips when they were younger.  Sarah, Kris, and I went on a road trip to Oregon and Washington in the early 90's.... That was fun (well, sorta, 2 weeks in the car with a 7 and 8 year old); I'd get them to stop fighting in the car (kids get so restless while traveling) by bribing them with a hotel that included a pool if they were good.   Brittney, Katelyn, and I attempted Half Dome a few years back, but someone (and it wasn't me).... couldn't go farther than Nevada Falls, so we just stopped there and picnic'd.  Since then, Brittney had a son, so that has limited her traveling.  Katelyn is my new traveling buddy, and when she gets too busy with life, she's got a younger sister!

Katelyn and I are planning a spring trip to Florida to visit our aunt.  Although i still need to clear it with my aunt, but I told Katelyn if she saves up half of her airfare, I'll pay the rest and her and I can go for a week of exploring.  I've never seen her so eager to earn money!

My top is Vogue DNKY out of print pattern.  I love this pattern and top and wear it often.  It has a lot of details but it is different and I just may make another winter version.

One down while watching Soaps
Topic: August, 2008

I love it when I am home during the week, I can sit around in my PJ's and watch TV.... I'm a General Hospital fan and have been since the late 60's!

Anyway, today I finished up one of my projects in the "line up"...

The Anna Sui top with the dotted swiss.  I used the 3 thread rolled edge on my serger to hem the flounce, ties, and hem.   On the corners, I put a drop of fray check before clipping off the threads.  It holds the corners permanently.

The jewelry I recently purchased at a jewelry party.... If you like jewelry I highly recommend this stuff... http://www.silpada.com/hollystauffer/

no affiliation, just a fan

and now I'm going to work on the dress/jumper and jacket...

Heck, I'm multi-tasking today - I got a pork roast in the crockpot for dinner!

Shine a Light

It was saturday morning, I was getting ready to head up to my parents, but... I really, really had to sew something, knowing that I'd have 1 or 2 days ON A WEEKEND of a sewing drought, so, I whipped up a Hot Pattern Weekender Sunshine Top http://www.hotpatternsstore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HP&Product_Code=wk_st&Category_Code=to this top, by the way, is a winner.  I've made it before and love the feminine fit and it goes together nicely.  the only adjustment I need to do is make the sleeves wider for my larger than normal? upper arms.  I used a beautiful rayon lycra.... oh and it drapes so nicely.  And goes nicely with my blue eyes.

well... I made the mistake of taking it up to my mom's, asked her to try it on (for fit mind you)... thinking, ah, it won't fit her, it will be too low, etc., she tried it on and liked it!  She took it!

But doesn't it look so cute on her...... and it goes nicely with her eyes too!

oh, and the title of this entry, "Shine a Light" is what I was watching while sewing this top.... rockumentaries are the best for sewing... you get a little gossip, a little rock and roll, and I get to dance while I iron!

Shine a Light was good, and I'll be watching it again before I put it into the Netflix return envelope ... Martin Scorsese chronicles the career of the Roling Stones with footage from the band's "A Bigger Bang" tour..... revealing interviews, behind the scenes clips and live performances.....AND....here's some Sue gossip:  "Brown Sugar" was the first song I danced to at a "dance"... it was 8th grade, junior high, cafeteria, I was the dork in the corner, I went alone (you know, come to think of it, I still go alone to most places), and this was the first and only song I danced to.....   maybe it was because I made my clothes, but whatever... Brown Sugar is forever etched in my brain as that moment.

I said yeah, I said yeah, I said yeah, yeah!
