Another sewing machine
Every now and then I scan ebay for sewing machines that are local and for pick up only. You can get some good steals buys that way.
I found this machine and love the cabinet. It's a drawing cabinet so you can neatly store it away in your drawing room. (In Victorian times, the drawing-room was used for comfortable sitting and as the principal room for entertaining) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drawing_room
These older cabinets are usually nice wood that can easily be refinished. This one appears to be in very nice condition. I'm picking it up tonite....
This is an ad. Based on the serial number on the machine it appears to be from August, 1910 . This cabinet came in 2 styles, plain and embossed. I think the wood is referred to as tiger oak.
I already have a treadle machine, but it's the ordinary cabinet we see so often. I think I may oil this and see how it works.. Next time we have "rolling blackouts" and no electric, I can sew by candle light!
